It’s official, Apple is now in the move download business. Itunes store reads “It’s Showtime” as it updates it new itunes store for movie downloads

SEATTLE, Washington (Reuters) — When Apple Computer introduced the iPod digital music player and companion iTunes music software, it created a legitimate market for music downloads and solved a problem vexing the technology industry.Nearly five years later and on the eve of an announcement expected to be about movie downloads, analysts anticipate Apple will deliver a product to solve the entertainment industry’s current dilemma: how to bridge the gap between the living room television and the computer. If Apple could solve that problem, analysts see the potential for another round of robust growth at a time when the company is facing a growing number of competitors in the digital music market, including Microsoft.”When you’re talking movie downloads within the home, you have to be able to get stuff from the downloaded point to the big screen in the house,” said Michael Gartenberg, analyst at Jupiter. “That’s been the weak link.”

Amazon Un-Ready

Amazon is taking a beating in the press over its new download service. Long download times, heavy software you have to download, and no way to burn to DVD like a Cinemanow.

See below:

Amazon Un-readyThe web-based store itself is easy to navigate and Amazon-esque in every way. Amazon has revamped the digital downloads section to make it look and feel like a “remote library” of the things you have purchased, but it’s neither amazing nor disappointing. It’s serviceable, perhaps.
