The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift opens this weekend. It will not have Paul Walker or Vin Diesel but here is the story line from yahoo movies “Sean Boswell is an outsider who attempts to define himself as a hot-headed, underdog street racer. Although racing provides a temporary escape from an unhappy home and the superficial world around him, it has also made Sean unpopular with the local authorities. To avoid jail time, Sean is sent to live with his gruff, estranged father, a career military-man stationed in Tokyo. Now officially a gaijin… ”
Paul walker and Vin Diesel will not appear in the movie. The Third film picks up with Diesel’s story. Where he heads down to Mexico and then finds his way to Japan, the street racing capitol of the world. So I am not sure how they will work it with out Diesel?
The movie also introduces us to a “drifting” which is a street racing move. I found a nice explanation on this site: http://streetracing.tiora.net/japan/drift/drift1.htm
“What Is Drifting?
Basically, drifting is getting your car sideways down a road. It doesn’t sound very hard does it? Sounds a lot like power sliding huh? Well it isn’t. It’s much more complex. Instead of a drifter causing a drift and then countering to straighten out, he will instead over-counter so his car goes into another drift. That is the reason many drifters do it in the mountains, because there are many sharp turns strung together. So in essence a good drifter has the ability to take five or six opposing turns without having traction at any point in time.”
I hope this film does not inspire a whole group of kids to try this on the city streets of America.

New this weekend
What is new this weekend?
Yahoo movies:
Cars: A hotshot rookie race car (voiced by Owen Wilson) learns about life in the slow lane. From the director of ‘Toy Story.’
The Omen: A remake of the horror classic where an American diplomat and his wife discover that their adopted child may be the Anti-Christ.
A Prairie Home Companion: Robert Altman directs Meryl Streep and Lindsay Lohan as performers on the last broadcast of a long-running radio show.
For more on these movies and more check out Yahoo Movies
I personally will wait for the Omen to come to DVD. As I child I was forced to listen to ‘A Prairie Home Companion’ when all I wanted to do was play with my Star Wars figures. So I don’t think I will ever see this movie.
Cars looks like a fun family movie! We may have check this out but not this weekend as the World Cup starts today!

X-man 3 is finally here
I don’t know why I want to see this so bad? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that is was my favorite as a kid? Not sure and don’t care. All I care about is seeing the flick. I hope it’s as good as the 2nd movie. RottenTomatoe only gave it a 5.9 out of 10. Oh well, I am still going to see it.

The Da Vinci Code opens
So with all the buzz “The Da Vinci Code” finally opens. It has dominated the newspapers, magazines and web.
Yahoo moives states “While it will still offend some Christians, it turns out that the movie version of “The Da Vinci Code” subtly softens some of the religiously disputed aspects of Dan Brown’s novel.”
While I understand why the Director did this I am a bit disappointed. I think the movie should stick to the true spirit of the original book.
This famous line from the book “Almost everything our fathers taught us about Christ is false.” was no where to be found in the movie version. Too bad. However I think I will still go see the moive. I don’t like my drinks watered down and same goes with movies…
