Weekend Movie Picks
This weekend there are a couple movies to check out. Saw III leads the pack. Others in release are Brad Pitt’s movie “Babel” or “Death of a President” which is causing a bit of political storm.
For the third year in a row, the diabolical character Jigsaw is set to rule the Halloween box office with the thriller “Saw III.”

Man on the Year
With little to laugh or even smile about in real life politics this movie might just be a hit. With the Foley scandal hitting hard, North Kore firing off nuclear bombs and the Iraq war looking more and more like a modern day Vietnam, we can only hope a movie like Man of the Year can take our mind off the reality we are facing as a nation.
Check out the short synopsis written by Yahoo Movies:
Acerbic performer Tom Dobbs has made his career out of skewering politicians and speaking the mind of the exasperated nation on his talk show. He cracked scathing jokes at a fractured system night after night–until he came up with a really funny idea: why not run for president himself? After a flip comment, Dobbs ignites a grassroots movement that puts him on the ballot. Hot on the campaign..

Flyboys
I want to see this movie for no better reason than the trialers look so cool. Very much I guy thing I understand, but still does not change the fact i will go see this movie over the weekend. It’s based on a true story, which always is good to me.
Cinema Blend gives this 2 out of 5 stars… oh well, still gonna see it!
World War I is long overdue for a proper trip across modern movie screens, but Flyboys isn’t it. Director Tony Bill’s film captures all the cliché’s of every war movie ever made and rolls them into an experience punctuated by inconsistent performances and even more inconsistent storytelling. Miami Vice the Movie
No more waiting! As a child of the 80’s I really look forward to seeing this movie, but after reading many reviews most don’t like the movie. Check out the review on MSN by John Hart. Makes you want to wait for video…
No matter what Michael Mann does, he’ll always be identified with “Miami Vice” — especially now that he has turned his 22-year-old television series into a $135 million R-rated movie starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.Unfortunately, it’s one of Mann’s weakest films: a self-important big-screen rehash that misses the quirky fun of the original. It’s as if Mann had set out to deny fans of the show what they loved: the Miami seascapes, the pink flamingos, the pastel clothes, the art deco, the alligator named Elvis. This is no nostalgia trip.

Superman returns $21 million Wednesday
Superman Powers his way to the top
Superman returns brings in $21 million in its first day at the theaters! Making in number 8 all time movies released on Wednesday.
Yahoo movies reports:
“ Superman Returns” is the third comic-book adaptation created by director Bryan Singer, who also turned “X-Men” and “X2: X-Men United” into smash hits. The film stars newcomer Brandon Routh as the hero who returns to Earth after a five-year absence and faces a new threat from villain Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) and a fresh rival for the affections of Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth).
It was the first movie about the Man of Steel since 1987’s flop “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace,” the late Christopher Reeve’s fourth and final time as the superhero. ”
With the long holiday weekend at hand this could prove to be a triumphant return for the man of steel.
I personally will try and make time for the movie but with World Cup action heating up I am not sure it will be in the cards.
