LimeWire gets sued

“Despite numerous efforts to engage LimeWire, the site’s corporate owners have shown insufficient interest in developing a legal business model,” the Recording Industry Association of America said in a statement. “While other services have come productively to the table, LimeWire has sat back and continued to reap profits on the backs of the music community. That is unfortunate and has left us no choice but to file a lawsuit to protect the rights and livelihoods of artists, songwriters and record label employees.”

Amazon wants digital downloads

Ok, people it’s about to happen. Mark my words, in about 12 months Amazon, itunes and Google will be in the movie Download business.

They will jump into the space currently held by Cinemanow, MovieLink and Vongo.  With these new players in the space movie downloading is about to make a big turn for the better. It will only get better for the consumer.

Amazon will face the same issues Cinemanow and Movielink have face for the last 7 years. It will come down to the question of rights and price. Will the studios allow comsumer friendly pricing and ability to burn? Only time will tell. But be sure now is a very good time for movie downloaders…

Real change will come only when yet again an outsider like Apple CEO Steve Jobs proves that an alternative formula — like iTunes, which has been phenomenally successful at selling songs and episodic TV downloads — can be adapted and prove profitable for film downloads. Jeff Bezos, CEO of the 11-year-old e-tailer Amazon.com and like Jobs another Internet trailblazer, is also trying to shake things up. While neither Bezos nor Jobs are willing to confirm that they are both quietly negotiating with the studios to make movie downloads the next frontier, informed insiders believe such talks are taking place.
