Hollywood studies the effects of Piracy

The major Hollywood studios claim they have lost over $6 billion dollars in 2005 in DVD sales and internet download. This tells me there is a $6 billion dollar market the studios are ignoring because they fear technology and how it will cannibalize current distribution models. If I were the studios I would take this as a way to create a product the consumer is demanding. Why not charge a fair price on a movie and let a customer download it and durn it to a DVD?

The music industry has made the conversions and show exploding online sales of songs and hardware (think ipod). Let’s hope this study sparks the studios to get their products in line with current technology and demand and not use it to justify legal actions against customers.
